Patrick Stratton’s work combines weaving with mechanics to document micro social systems. Using systematized observation, Stratton makes pieces that try to highlight small human moments from a playful, existentialist viewpoint. Inspired by writers like Samuel Beckett, Stratton tries to do his best with what he has, reducing his experience in a time of overwhelming saturation. Stratton does this through his recent series: ‘Things I do Sometimes’. He starts with listing in a scientific-like approach, moving left to right in a regularly occupied space, listing every action to do with an object and then converts it into a moving tapestry, often weaving it, then using motors to animate the piece. Stratton graduated from City and Guilds School of Art in 2021 and recent exhibitions include duo-show Wobblegob, and the 2022 Saatchi StART Art fair.
